Wineroom

Wineroom

June 13th, 2008

The buzz: The Sky Lounge at the Sheraton has announced the opening of its new Wineroom, boasting Hong Kong’s first Enomatic, a sophisticated wine-dispensing machine.

The décor: The space feels warm like a wine cellar, with wooden floors and red brick walls. In spite of this, you’re treated to an 18th floor view of Tsim Sha Tsui when you look out the windows. Behind glass doors are racks of rare wines in storage, while handsome sofas, banquettes and leather club chairs give the room a stately ambience. Select a glass and decanter from the shelves and you’re good to go.

The drinks:
Think soda fountain for wine-lovers. The Enomatic is a state-of-the-art, Italian-designed wine-serving system. 24 unusual varieties are all available for your sampling at the push of a button. From $20 to $200 per glass, you can chose to have a sip of dégustation at 2.5cl, a greater tipple at 7.5cl, or a more significant 15cl pour. Ask the staff for a wine card, grab a Bordeaux glass, peruse through the labels and embark on a tasting adventure. The wine selection changes every three months.

The crowd:
Serious and curious wine aficionados.

Why you’ll return: It’s all about the Wine Dispenser. Though it sounds a bit tacky, the machine is a truly wondrous design that will have you and friends lingering around, pressing buttons and cultivating yourselves on the multiplicity of wines.
