It’s called Peak Zen but “zen” is not the word we would use to describe our experience. Since we knew it to be touristy, we went in with our expectations lowered. But even the tackiest tourist trap should have done better than this. The first strike was the service. We went on a weekday evening and the restaurant was deserted. Yet the waiter still took it upon himself to constantly pester us into finishing our dishes to make space for the next course. As for the food, a set meal at $388 per head, we were shocked to find the sea cucumber in the soup undercooked, and even more surprised to be served fried rice that was worse than a dai pai dong’s. For dessert, we had an almond tea that tasted like it had come straight out of a packet. The only redeeming feature of this restaurant? The veranda and the view.
